What's Cooking on 1060: A Tiki Bar, Japanese BBQ, and DiBruno's 75th

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- A new Japanese barbecue restaurant opens this weekend in the Granary Building, at 1901 Callowhill Street.

"You choose your meats, you choose your veggies, all of your accompanying food, and it gets prepped for you in the kitchen," explains Karen Tancrede (top photo), general manager of Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue.   "It does come out raw, except the appetizers, and you cook it on the grill yourself to your liking, and enjoy it with a lot of really fun sauces."

Over in Fishtown, "The Yachtsman," a tiki bar, opens next week on Frankford Avenue.

"It's a really a sort of American hybrid of Polynesian, Caribbean, Hawaiian -- lots of different influences in it -- so there's a lot of bamboo, a lot of beach scenes, a lot of hula girls and ukuleles," says co-owner Sarah Brown (below).

Brown reminds us that they wouldn't have been able to open if not for those who generously donated to their Kickstarter campaign.

"We have a really awesome reward with a Yachtsman keychain and a key to the 'captain's bathroom.'   It's just kind of a step up, a little more attention to detail in there," she tells What's Cooking.

And the legendary DiBruno Brothers cheese and gourmet food emporium celebrates 75 years with a "Summer Salute."  Vice president Emilio Mignucci (below) says they're giving away free food on Saturdays at their newest location, in the Franklin Residences (formerly the Ben Franklin Hotel), at 9th and Chestnut Streets.

And that's not all.

"We're raising $75,000 for the St. James School, in North Philly, to build their community kitchen, so that we can combat childhood obesity and teach these young people where food comes from," says Mignucci.
