What's Cooking on 1060: 2 New Restaurants, and Playspace Happy Hours

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) --  Nicole Marquis, who already owns Hip City Veg, is opening a new vegan and plant-based bar-restaurant with an unusual name at 131 South 13th Street, in center city.

Marquis (top photo) says her latest venture is called "Charlie Was A Sinner."

"It is small plates, plant-based sustenance, really delicious food that you can pair with a specialty cocktail," she explains.   "Two to three plates a person gives you a really nice meal, and the vegetables are really the focus."

Meanwhile, Hattery Stove and Still opened this month in Doylestown, Pa.   Co-owner Samantha McCarty says this historic restaurant is located in the historic Doylestown Inn.

"The inn was established in 1902, and prior to that it was a cigar store, it was a soap store, it was numerous buildings, it was even a lumberyard," she tells What's Cooking, "which is crazy in the center of Doylestown.  And it was also a hattery."

.

Nest, a children's playspace at 13th and Locust Streets in center city, now offers summer happy hours the fourth Friday of each month.

Nest "lead ambassador" Jessica Downes says this BYOB cocktail hour is for parents who want to drink an adult beverage while watching their children play.

"So your kids can play in the playspace and you can hang out with the other adults, and your kids can have fun while you're having fun!" she says.
