Gun Violence: City Records 99th Homicide After Fatal West Philadelphia Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 61-year-old man was shot and killed in West Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The city has now hit 99 homicides in 2022.

Police say they found the victim inside a second-floor master bedroom on the 4800 block of Springfield Avenue unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his neck around 11:30 p.m.

The man was transported to Presbyterian Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:58 p.m.

Police say they've arrested a 26-year-old man who is allegedly responsible for the shooting. Officials also found a handgun in the master bedroom.

The two were believed to have been friends but it's not clear what led to the shooting.

The city is currently outpacing last year's record number of homicides.
