Weekend Box Office Report: The Other Woman Leaves The Others Behind

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new leader emerged at the box office.

The Other Woman left the others behind.

The new infidelity comedy, The Other Woman, starring Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann, finished first at the box office on its debut weekend by earning an estimated $25-million.

That dropped the box-office leader of the past three weekends, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, to second place with its total of $16-million.

Third place was a virtual tie at $15-million between the holdover religious drama, Heaven Is for Real, and the holdover animated musical, Rio 2.

Two other debuting titles finished among the top ten: The action thriller, Brick Mansions, was fifth with $10-million, while the horror thriller, The Quiet Ones, earned $4-million, good for seventh place.

Industry-wide totals were modest, but should pick up next weekend, as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 kicks off as the first probable blockbuster of the summer movie season.
