Weekend Box Office Report: 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2' Scores Fourth Win

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On the calm weekend before the Star Wars storm, The Hunger Games remained in first place – but just barely.

The hit sci-fi sequel, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, made it four weekends in a row on top by earning just over $11-million for yet another, but undoubtedly its last, first-place finish.

Just behind, in second place by a mere few thousand dollars, was the weekend's only new mainstream release, director Ron Howard's seafaring drama, In the Heart of the Sea. It took in $11-million.

In third place was the holdover animated adventure, The Good Dinosaur, with a total of just over $10-million.

Fourth place went to the Rocky sequel, Creed, with $10-million.

And rounding out the top five was the holdover horror thriller, Krampus, with $8-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were modest as exhibitors eagerly awaited next week's can't-miss blockbuster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
