Weekend Box Office Report: 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' Remains #1

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Make it three in a row for Katniss Everdeen.

That's the heroine played by Jennifer Lawrence in the blockbuster sci-fi sequel, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, which made it three straight weeks in first place at the box office by earning an estimated $19-million on its third weekend of release, bringing its cumulative total to $227-million..

The weekend's only new mainstream offering, Krampus, the Christmas-themed horror thriller, was the runner-up with just over $16-million.

Strongly performing holdovers held down the next two spots, as Creed, the Rocky spinoff, and the animated adventure, The Good Dinosaur, were tied for third with just under $16-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were respectable for the historically slow first weekend in December, topping last year's take by a considerable margin.
