Weekend Box Office Report: 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' Continues Reign On Top

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Middle-earth continues beckoning moviegoers.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies made it three weekends in a row in first place at the box office, earning an estimated $22-million on the new year's first weekend, bringing its cumulative total well over the $200-million mark.

The musical, Into the Woods, placed second, taking in $19 -million, while the inspirational drama, Unbroken, was third with $18-million.

The weekend's only new release – the horror sequel, The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death -- debuted with a total of $15-million, good for a fourth-place finish.

And Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb rounded out the top five with $14-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were ever-so-slightly ahead of those of a year ago.
