Weekend Box Office Report: 'The Boss' Takes Charge...Barely

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Who was the boss of the box office over the weekend?

Hard to say because The Boss and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finished in a virtual tie for the top spot.

The Boss, the new comedy with Melissa McCarthy, claimed first place but by the narrowest of margins, earning just over $23-million.

And right behind it was the leader of the last two weekends, the holdover crime-fighter fantasy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In third place, with $14-million, was the holdover animated hit, Zootopia.

And rounding out the top five were the comedy sequel, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, with $6-million and the debuting action thriller, Hardcore Henry, with $5-million.

On a decidedly slow weekend at multiplexes, industry-wide sources were well below those of last weekend and of a year ago.
