Weekend Box Office Report: Robots Transform Weekend Totals

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This weekend saw the year's biggest box office opening so far.
To absolutely no one's surprise, the latest Transformers adventure transformed the sequel-dominated box office weekend into a money machine.
Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth installment in the science fiction series, starring Mark Wahlberg, earned an estimated $100-million for a runaway first-place finish. It's the second-highest opening for a Transformers flick, but the first movie of 2014 to pass the $100-million mark on its opening weekend.
The next three slots went to holdover sequels: 22 Jump Street was a distant second with $15-million, How to Train Your Dragon 2 was third with $13-million, and Think Like a Man Too, last weekend's leader, dropped to fourth with $10-million.
Overall, despite the spectacular debut of Transformers: Age of Extinction, industry-wide figures were slightly down from those of the same weekend a year ago.
