Weekend Box Office Report: Numbers Add Up For 'The Accountant'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The numbers added up for The Accountant.

The Ben Affleck-starring thriller finished first at the box office on its debut weekend, earning an estimated $25-million.

That bested last weekend's ticket-selling leader, The Girl on the Train, and dropped it into a virtual tie for the runner-up spot with another new attraction, the comedy concert film, Kevin Hart: What Now?  Each took in just under $12-million.

Rounding out the top five were two holdovers – Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Deepwater Horizon – which earned $9-million and $6-million, respectively.

Overall, industry-wide totals were slightly below those of last weekend and even further below those of a year ago.
