Weekend Box Office Report: Number One 'Neighbors'

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Neighbors wasn't all that neighborly to Spider-Man.

The suburban-conflict comedy, Neighbors, with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, debuted with a strong first-place finish, earning an estimated, impressive $52–million.

That dropped last weekend's leader, the fantasy sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, to second place with a second-weekend take of $32-million.

Third was the holdover comedy, The Other Woman, with a total of $9-million.

Two other new mainstream attractions also cracked the top ten:

The faith-based comedy, Moms' Night Out, finished seventh with just over $4-million, while the animated Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return took in just under $4-million, good for eighth place.

Overall, industry-wide totals were below those of the counterpart weekend a year ago.
