Weekend Box Office Report: Frozen Keeps The Competition On Ice

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)  --  On a frozen weekend, appropriately enough, Frozen found its way to the top.

After several weeks in a row as the box office runner-up, the animated musical, Frozen, finished first by earning an estimated $21-million.

The sequel, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, the fifth installment in the horror franchise and the weekend's only new mainstream release, finished second with $18-million.

Dropping to third place was recent box office leader The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which had ruled the roost for three straight weekends.

It took in $16-million.

Rounding out the top five were holdovers The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle, each of which earned just above $13-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were solid, even if a tad below those of a year ago.
