By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nearly 20 years ago, comedy audiences turned out for Dumb and Dumber. Well, they flocked to Dumb and Dumber To too.

The comedy sequel starring returnees Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels earned an estimated $38-million, giving its weekend debut a first-place finish.

Not far behind was last weekend's leader, the animated adventure, Big Hero 6, which took in $36-million.

Third place belonged to the holdover Interstellar, the science fiction epic with Matthew McConaughey. It earned $29-million.

In fourth was the debuting musical drama, Beyond the Lights, with $7-million.

And rounding out the top five was the holdover, Gone Girl, with $5-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals on the holiday movie season's second weekend were well above those on the counterpart weekend last year.
