Weekend Box Office Report: Not Much Of A Battle For Captain America

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Captain America: Civil War followed up its blockbuster opening weekend a week ago with another strong showing on the summer movie season's second weekend.

The fantasy sequel earned an estimated $73-million for a second straight first-place finish at the box office.

That put it well ahead of the runner-up, the holdover, The Jungle Book, which took in a total of $18-million.

In third place was the debuting suspense thriller, Money Monster, with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. It earned $15-million on its initial weekend.

And fourth was the weekend's other new mainstream release, The Darkness, the horror thriller starring Kevin Bacon, which took in a modest $5-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were well below those of last weekend and of the counterpart weekend a year ago.
