Weekend Box Office Report: 'Captain America' Continues To Rule

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Captain America continues to capture America.

The fantasy sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, made it three weekends in a row in first place at the box office by earning an estimated $26-million in its third weekend of release.

The animated sequel, Rio 2, was, for the second straight weekend, a strong runnerup, taking in $22-million.

New attractions took the next three slots.

The religious drama, Heaven Is for Real, starring Greg Kinnear, was third with a healthy $21-million.

The Johnny Depp science fiction thriller, Transcendence, was fourth with a tepid $ 11-million.

And the comedy sequel, A Haunted House 2, took fifth with a modest $9-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals continued ahead of last year's pace.
