Weekend Box Office: 'Magnificent Seven' Is No. 1

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The western remake, The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington, performed not quite magnificently but certainly well enough at the box office on its opening weekend, earning an estimated $35-million for a solid first-place finish.

Second place was claimed by another new attraction, the animated comedy, Storks, which took in $22-million on its weekend debut.

Consequently, the recent box-office leader, Sully, with Tom Hanks, dropped to third with a total of $14-million, but pushed its cumulative total over the $90-million mark.

Meanwhile, no other title could eclipse the $5-million mark.

Overall, industry-wide totals were well below those of last weekend, but well ahead of those of a year ago.
