Week-Long Celebration Rings In Chinese New Year In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Today is the Chinese New Year and to celebrate, there will be parades, dancing and plenty of food in Chinatown over the next week.

One way you can welcome in the Year of the Sheep is at the Philadelphia Suns Lion Dance Parade on Sunday.

"The parade will bring luck to everybody," says Weiling Wang with the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation.

Wang says they will also host the Chinatown New Year Banquet a few days later:

"People are able to enjoy the delicious Chinese food and experience the traditional Chinese New Year culture."

Wang says the events welcome anybody, no matter your cultural background or ethnicity:

"We wish to bring the wishes to everybody, so you are able to experience the more real and traditional feeling."

The celebration kicked off early this morning with the Midnight Lion Dance Performance.
