Week 2: Eagles Studs And Duds

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This offseason I proclaimed myself as captain of the "Chip Ship."

Well, there's an ice berg. Right ahead.

That was a devastating, ugly, repulsive 20-10 Eagles loss to the Cowboys. It's officially doomsday in Philadelphia.

Duds

3. Sam Bradford

I understand his offensive line and wide receivers didn't help him much, but he still needs to be better. The offense just isn't running smoothly. The pace, the decisiveness, the rhythm. It's not there.

Bradford: 23-37, 224 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 1 fumble

2. Jason Peters

The normally reliable Peters, who limped off at the end of third quarter but did return, struggled all night. Almost as bad as Jason Kelce.

1. Jason Kelce

Jason Kelce couldn't block anyone all night. It was one of the worst games I've seen from Kelce as an Eagle.

The play above was a 1st-and-10 play, six minutes into the game and really set the tone. For the second straight game, the Eagles failed to run the ball.

Here's a 2nd-and-8 run later in the game. More of the same. Kelce blown up, pushed way back into the backfield.

And I didn't even get to the snap off of Bradford's shoulder pad.

Studs

3. Jordan Matthews

He did have two drops, but I have to find three studs somehow and Matthews finished with six catches for 80 yards and a garbage time touchdown. Woo hoo!

2. Jordan Hicks

Injuries to Kiko Alonso and Mychal Kendricks forced rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks into a big role on Sunday. Hicks played 54 (64-percent) defensive snaps and did a really nice job, for the most part (other than a 39-yard catch to Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar on a go-route, but that's a tough situation).

Hicks' seven tackles were second most and he recorded one of three Eagles' sacks (the play where Tony Romo broke his clavicle).

1. Malcolm Jenkins

Jenkins was everywhere on Sunday, for the second straight game. Jenkins led the Eagles in tackles with eight and had two for loss. In coverage, he was his usual stellar self. Jenkins was also in the right spot at the right time, returning a Byron Maxwell forced fumble deep into Cowboys territory, setting up....the Bradford-Kelce botched snap.
