Weather: Wintry Mix Heading Our Way

By Carol Erickson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We're still looking for a similar set up storm-wise for late Sunday into Monday, mostly rain south (Delaware and southern New Jersey) with rain/snow/sleet/freezing rain from 1-3 inches in Philadelphia and suburban points just east and west.

A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect for the Lehigh Valley and Poconos from Sunday evening to Monday afternoon for a chance of 6" plus. (Philadelphia is under no watches, warnings, advisories at this time.)

The latest RPM pushes the warm air farther to the north than previous runs, and the 06z GFS rapid update model does the same. (translation: do they get more sleet/mix earlier thru the Lehigh Valley, which cuts totals?) My takeaway, so far, subject to change as we all know storms evolve, is that warmer air is being pulled into this system, but just how far north, how quickly does that go?

In any case, with a chance of freezing rain, snow, sleet, the late Sunday and Monday morning commute will likely be very messy.
