WEATHER: Steamy, Then Stormy

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Another hot and steamy day is in store for the Delaware Valley. It will also be the third consecutive 90° day in Philadelphia, which would make it the first official heat wave of 2015. With humid conditions and heat advisories ranging between 95 and 100 later today, a heat advisory has been issued for Philly and counties along the urban corridor from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. Make sure to stay hydrated and take it easy outdoors!

While hazy sunshine will be out early on today, clouds will mix in and storms will fire up this afternoon, all in advance of a cold front. These storms will be strong, and a few will likely turn severe. The entire region is in at an enhanced risk for severe weather, the highest classification from the storm prediction center that it has been in this year. Many places will frequent lightning, potentially damaging winds, and small hail; there is even a very small chance of a weak tornado. These storms will affect the Poconos and Lehigh Valley during the early to mid-afternoon (12 p.m. - 4 p.m.), Philadelphia and the suburbs during the late afternoon into rush hour (3 p.m. – 5 p.m.), and shore points right through dinner time (5 p.m. – 8 p.m.).

Skies clear tonight, and Wednesday looks like the nicest day of the week: warm and less oppressive, with lots of sunshine.
