Weather: Region Will Endure Chance For More Showers, Thunderstorms On Tuesday

By Steven Strouss

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Strong thunderstorms rolled through the Delaware Valley this evening with damaging winds, hail and downpours. The hardest hit areas were North and West of Philadelphia. Wind gusts to 60 mph knocked down poles and wires in Berks County and a funnel cloud was spotted in Pottsville, Schuylkill County.  Elsewhere, over an inch of rain fell in parts of Chester County and two tornado warnings were issued in central PA.

After a wild afternoon of weather, heavy rain will continue overnight and the region will endure the chance for more showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday as a cold front exits the region. Any storms on Tuesday may also contain gusty winds and downpours but the threat severe weather will be greatly reduced.

High pressure will settle in on Wednesday bringing sunshine and warm temperatures. If you like the heat, you will enjoy and the rest of the week as the mercury and humidity climb. Temperatures will spike in the low 90s on Thursday and Friday but we should fall short of a heat wave on Saturday as highs remain in the upper 80s.
