Gusty storms could arrive in the Philadelphia region Wednesday night, after a record warm spring day.

Philadelphia reached a record 82 degrees Wednesday — 82 degrees is the normal high temperature for June 10. The previous record high was 81 degrees, set in 1978.

A chance for more widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop late this afternoon into the first half of the overnight hours.

We've issued a NEXT Weather Alert for these storms, which could produce heavy rain and potentially gusty winds.

Most of our region is under a Level 1 or "marginal" risk of severe weather (shaded green on our map), but other portions, including Delaware, areas in New Jersey along the Delaware River, and Chester County, are under a Level 2 or "slight" risk according to the Storm Prediction Center (shaded yellow on our map).

NEXT big weather changes

The rain and storms Wednesday will be associated with a cold front that will usher in much cooler air for Thursday, with highs only in the mid-50s, keeping a small chance for a passing shower.

The Easter weekend will be warm again, but remain unsettled with showers and storms looking likely Sunday afternoon and evening.

Plan on doing your egg hunts in the morning!  

Artemis II launch

We're in the final hours before the launch of the Artemis II mission, and the forecast remains good Wednesday evening, with an 80% of GO conditions.

The only limiting factors are some potential cumulus clouds (lightning concern) and breezy onshore winds.
