Weather Blog: Snow & Freezing Rain For Some Areas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A cold Arctic air mass remains in place on Sunday as our next storm system moves into the region.  Enough cold air hangs around to bring a round of snow and freezing rain to areas north of Philly before changing over to all rain.  A winter weather advisory will be in effect for areas north of Philly Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning.

Not much precipitation will fall during the day, as the steadiest precipitation holds off until late tonight.  Expect cloudy skies through the day with some light snow showers possible.  Later tonight, more moisture will arrive and start as snow for the northern and western suburbs through the Poconos and rain from Philly on south and east.  Eventually, a warm front will move through and temperatures will start climbing above freezing and continue to rise overnight.  Areas that see snow will changeover to freezing rain overnight and eventually all rain by Monday morning with the rain ending by late Monday morning.

Light snow accumulations up to an 1" are possible in the N & W suburbs through the Lehigh Valley along with a few hundredths of an inch of ice accumulation possible, before changing to rain early Monday morning.  Higher snow amounts of 2-4" are expected in the Poconos with less than a tenth of an inch of freezing rain, before changing to all rain Monday morning.

A colder Arctic air mass will then arrive on Thursday with daytime highs struggling to get to freezing.
