Service restored to 70 properties after water main break in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood
Service was restored Tuesday night after a water main break left 70 properties without water in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood.
The water main break sent water rushing into a Philadelphia street Tuesday afternoon as crews continued working to clear packed-down ice and snow.
The Philadelphia Water Department said a crew responded to the leak around 11 a.m. Seventy properties didn't have water, but the 6-inch water main was repaired and service was restored, a spokesperson for the department said.
The water department also treated streets and sidewalks affected by leaking water, the spokesperson said.
Chopper 3 flew over Marion and Hansberry streets in the city's Germantown neighborhood and saw multiple snow removal vehicles and workers with shovels trying to move snow and ice away from the rushing water.
Neighbors said they woke up to find they did not have running water in their homes Tuesday morning. Water had already filled the street by the time Water Department crews arrived around 10 a.m., residents said.
"That was a concern because it's cold, so it's icy, and I know that we have to shovel, but how are we going to shovel ice and all that stuff? So, it's a big mess," Natasha Minor said.
