WATCH: Upper Gwynedd Township Police Rescue Blind, Deaf And Elderly Dog Stuck About 5-Feet Underground

UPPER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Officials in Upper Gwynedd Township responded to an unusual call on Monday. A blind, deaf and elderly dog had found a reservoir that became exposed due to the recent heavy rains.

The family pet was stuck about five feet underground.

Small town policing has given us some interesting animal related calls over the years. There was the time one of our officers captured an errant emu on Morris Road (who knew they would destroy the back seat of a patrol car so quickly??? Or perhaps the countless duckling rescues. Let's not forget about capturing a multitude of wild animals that somehow wind up in peoples homes (usually in the wee morning hours). Well today brought a new and unique example. This afternoon Penny a blind, deaf and elderly family pet on Green Street discovered a long forgotten cistern that became exposed with the recent heavy rains. She ended up about 5 feet underground. Fortunately Officers Toro, Gill and Sgt. Gillen were able to capture her with our stray dog pole and bring her back safely to her family!!! Who doesn't love a story with a happy ending!!!
