Voters Approve Ballot Question Calling For SRC To Be Abolished

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Voters last week approved a ballot question calling for the School Reform Commission to be abolished, and control of the district returned to the city. So what happens now?
By a 3-1 margin, voters approved abolishing the state-run School Reform Commission, but it's non-binding. The SRC has to vote to dissolve itself, with the approval of the state secretary of education.
City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, who sponsored the measure, says at least it sends a message.
"It proves that the public-- that we're all unified in our feeling and our opinion that we've got to have an SRC that relates to the public."
Blackwell says now, discussions can begin.
"It legitimizes our contact with the mayor, the superintendent and the governor to say we've got to do it differently. And that's what this question does."
