Voter Education Program Makes Stop In Upper Darby

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- On the last day to register to vote to be eligible for Pennsylvania's primary election on April 26th, a voter education program put together by Pennsylvania's department of state made a stop in Upper Darby.
Students at Delaware Community College's Upper Darby Center were shown not only how to register to vote online, but also walked through a quiz about the Pennsylvania election rules, including some true or false questions that many people might get wrong.
"True or False, you cannot vote if you have a prior felony conviction in Pennsylvania."
That's false says Marian Schnieder with the Pennsylvania Department of State, convicted felons can vote once they're released from prison – even though, she says, the statute still says they can't.
"The courts make decisions but the election code doesn't match the case law because it hasn't been amended."
That's the reason for the programs which she says are held around the state.
"We're just hoping to emphasize the importance of voting and provide people with the information and the tools they need to vote."
