PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Volunteers got to work today for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's annual "City in Bloom" Day.

Dana Dentise, with PHS, helped organize one group of volunteers in Logan Square.

"What we're doing is taking the flowers out of the pots, loosening up the root ball so that the roots can easily establish themselves in the soil," she told KYW Newsradio.

Jimmy Owens, also with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, says flowers were planted mostly along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and in "parkway spaces" such as Logan Square and Love Park.

"We really want people to have a 'wow' moment when they drive up and down the parkway, and in and around all these great landscapes," he said.

Amy was one of about a hundred corporate volunteers sacraficing a day at the office to help beautify the city.

"I love being able to plant," she said.  "I usually don't garden, so this has been really fun."
