Visitors Celebrate Memorial Day With Trip To Historic Cemetary

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Memorial day is a time to remember those of all wars who sacrificed their lives for our country. Visitors to a historic cemetery in Old City were doing just that.

"You see that flag? That would have been the flag that we had during the civil war."

Bob Spross is the tour guide at Christ Church Burial Ground, which is a Colonial and Revolution-era graveyard, in the historic district of Philadelphia with 1,400 markers.

He was pointing out the grave of Charles Izard McEuwn, a civil war hero.

"He also was killed in battle. He was only 32-years-old." "And this was general Jacob Morgan who was a very famous Army General during the revolutionary war."

14-year-old Darah Coleman was visiting from Minnesota.

"There has been a lot of sacrifice throughout the years through many different wars and I think its good to appreciate all of those people."

The public is invited at 1 p.m. Monday for a 21 gun salute memorial day ceremony.

Christ Church Burial Ground is located at 5th and Arch Streets in old city.
