Villanova University Professor Looks Back As We Look Ahead To November
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Villanova University professor who specializes in political campaigns, is weighing in on the two presumed presidential candidates and their unfavorable numbers.
Communications professor Doctor Len Shyles said the unfavorable ratings of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump has not been seen in decades.
"1964, when Goldwater ran and lost so miserably against Lyndon Johnson would be the last time someone was disliked as much."
The latest Quinnipiac survey shows Clinton with a 55.9 percent unfavorable rating, and Trump with 59.1 percent. This could be a factor in the general election.
"The motivation to go to the polls and vote could be a negative choice also," he said. "So that may act as a motivator to actually increase turnout."
The Bipartisan Policy Center said voter turnout in 2012 was 57.5 percent of eligible voters.
