Vienna Boys Choir Brings Holiday Cheer To Patients At CHOP

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- As it winds up a three-month stay in the U.S., the Vienna Boys Choir delighted patients, their families and the staff at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

One of Austria's most famous cultural exports, arguably the best-known boys' choir in the world, was well aware of their special audience, according to Vienna Boys Choir artistic director Gerald Wirth.

"It's one of the chances to give a little positive touch to life," Wirth said.

The group performed typically Austrian and American tunes. "Hopefully for the children here to have a chance to hum or sing along," said Wirth.

CHOP President and Chief Operating Officer Madeline Bell says the choir brings a lot of cheer to kids who need it. "Some of our patients will be here through the holidays, so we're trying to bring holiday spirit into them," she said.

The Vienna Boys' Choir traces its origins back more than 500-years; this troupe included about two dozen singers between 10 and 14-years old.
