Coalition For Victim Advocacy Holds Annual Awards Banque

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This week is National Crime Victim's week, and Philadelphia's Coalition for Victim Advocacy held their awards banquet Thursday afternoon at the District Attorney's office in Center City.

The annual event was held to honor those who go above and beyond, to help victims and their families.

Dozens of police officers, lawyers and victim advocates joined the ceremony as those who work more behind the scenes of the criminal justice system were honored.

"We live in a world right now, where it is so offender focused," said Amanda Bee, who works as a Victim/Witness Coordinator in Philadelphia, and was honored for her work in helping to relocate and assist witnesses, victims of crime, and their families.

"The justice happens when these brave people come forward and say I saw this homicide," she said.

"Victims are always victimized twice," said Yusuf Jackson, a Detective in the District Attorney's Office, with the Juvenile Division, and was honored for his work with kids

"People are hurting, people need healing, so I just do my part," said Jackson, who often reaches into his own pocket to fill a refrigerator or help a family.

"I see the need and I feel as though I am rewarded for it."
