Valley Forge Casino Promises Outreach Support to Regional Alzheimer's Association

By Brad Segall

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Valley Forge Casino Resort is partnering with the Delaware Valley chapter of the Alzheimer's Association to help spread the word about the disease and the support services that are available in the Philadelphia area for patients and their caregivers.

The unique partnership is all about education and awareness, and casino officials believe they have the resources to do both.  Valley Forge will promote association events to its approximately 1,000 employees, the customers who walk through the doors of the casino and hotel, and its list of more than 100,000 people.

"And having them learn about us -- that for me is a dream come true," said Wendy Campbell, president and CEO of the Alzheimer's Association chapter.  "I just can't imagine another way for us to reach so many people."

The casino resort will create an "Alzheimer's Action Team" -- a group of employees who will be trained on the warning signs of Alzheimer's and dementia.

Campbell (second from right in photo) said there are 31,000 families in Montgomery County dealing with Alzheimer's or related dementia, and they rely heavily on outreach to get the word out about programs and support.
