Use Common Sense Before Venturing Out to Mass During Storm, Archdiocese Urges

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With a big storm on the way, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia was encouraging the faithful -- especially senior citizens who attend daily mass -- to give some prayerful reflection on whether making the trek to church Thursday morning would be safe.
Fr. Dennis Gill, from the archdiocese's Office of Divine Worship, is encouraging people who typically attend daily mass to use common sense and not leave home if it would be dangerous in any way for them.
Gill suggests the faithful can employ other acts of worship from home.
"They could read the word of God, pray the rosary, make a spiritual communion, join themselves to the mass from their home," he says.
Gill also encouraged people to pray for those who have to be out working in the severe weather, and for the safety of everyone who will be affected by the storm.
