Update On "Direct Connect" Project In South Jersey

BELLMAWR, NJ (CBS) -- So how's that mega-project going at the 295-42 junction in South Jersey?

Half of the work on the "Direct Connect" project is either complete, getting worked on or in the pipeline. Two of the four contracts are still to be awarded.

"This is one of the biggest projects the New Jersey Department of Transportation has ever undertaken," NJ DOT spokesman Kevin Israel told KYW Newsradio. "900 million dollars is a very big project and yes, it's going to cause some inconveniences, unfortunately."

They're trying to do most of the work that'll block traffic during non-peak hours.

The project is on time, and on budget. That said, look for the work to continue until 2021.

When it's done, it's expected to relieve many of the daily backups on 295 in the morning and on the 42 freeway in the afternoon.
