Police Investigating Possible Hate Crime Following Assault At Off-Campus Party Near University Of Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) - Police are investigating a possible hate crime following an assault at an off-campus party allegedly involving University of Delaware students.

It happened on North Chapel Street around 6 p.m. Friday. Investigators say a 23-year-old man was assaulted by several people at the party.

Witnesses tell police the suspects, who are believed to be University of Delaware students, were heard using derogatory statements in reference to the victim's sexual orientation.

The victim suffered a leg injury and was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment.
