Union Sign Former La Salle Standout John McCarthy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Monday, the Union announced that they came to terms on a contract with local product and former La Salle star John McCarthy. The goalkeeper is a native of Philadelphia and played last season for the Rochester Rhinos of the USL.

Before attending La Salle, McCarthy, 22, was a standout at North Catholic High School.

"It's a dream come true to sign with my hometown team," McCarthy said in a released statement on Monday. "I'm thrilled with the opportunity and am looking forward at having a chance to contribute to such a great organization."

McCarthy was named the 2014 USL Pro Rookie of the Year. His 0.72 goals against average was the best in the league. McCarthy amassed an 8-4-6 record with 10 shutouts and 41 saves.
