UN Official Stops By Delaware County High School To Talk World Affairs With Students

DREXEL HILL, Pa. (CBS) -- The Assistant Secretary-General for the United Nations stopped by a Delaware County High School Tuesday morning for a brief lecture about the ongoing conflict in Syria.
So what were some of the lessons he wanted students to learn?
Kevin Kennedy graduated from Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School in 1965. Since then he's gone on to serve in the Marines, worked under for President Bush, and currently serves as United Nations as Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syrian Crisis.
Kennedy was there to talk to students about the current situation in Syria.
"Learn a little bit more about that, understand the dynamics behind this crisis, what we're trying to do about it, and how we go forward from here."
He also wanted to students to realize how events overseas can impact us here at home.
"Whether it's the hijacking of Egypt Air or the bombings in Brussels, these are things that have an impact on the entire world and certainly the United States. It impacts us in many, many ways."
Kennedy was also going to sit in on a few social studies classes during the school day.
