Ukee Washington Honored As 'Living Legend' By City Council
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia city council honored leaders in the media as a part of Black History Month, and one of the honorees is part of the CBS family.
CBS 3 anchor Ukee Washington was among African American leaders in radio television and print media honored by city council as a "Living Legend."
"Good morning family, and I do mean family."
Ukee says he was inspired and motivated by watching local television broadcasters when he was a kid on his family's black and white TV set.
"And seeing people who looked like me, motivated my soul. People like Trudy Haynes, Sonny Hill, the late Jack Jones, the late Malcolm Poindexter, true African American pioneers who spoke to me as a child without saying a word, but I heard them loud and clear. So loud and clear on so many levels."
Washington says its his and his fellow honorees' turns to help lead the way and pass on the torch.
"And keep our historical flame burning brightly."
