Two Philadelphia Women Banned From Owning Pets Following Animal Cruelty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The issue of cat hoarding is becoming a serious issue for the Pennsylvania SPCA. The agency secured 51 counts of animal cruelty in two separate cases recently.
The PSPCA's Nicole Wilson said on July 7th, Mimi Baas of the 24-hundred block of Bridge Street was found guilty of 28 summary counts, after someone reported dead cats in a trash can outside the property. Wilson said a search warrant found 27 cats and two-dogs.
"When they came back to the shelter, a number of cats required blood transfusions," Baas said. "We even had one cat that had cardiac arrest and actually was deceased for a few moments before our vets were able to bring it back to life."
In the second case, Wilson said Charlotte Simila of Griscom Street was charged with not providing adequate veterinary care for 22 cats that lived in urine-soaked and feces covered conditions.
Both women were issued fines and prohibited from owning pets for seven and six years respectively.
