Two More Chances Of Snow In The Forecast, Could Land Us In Top 10!

By Kathy Orr

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Philadelphia has received over 40 inches of snow this winter and is currently less than 3" away from entering the top 10 list of all time record winter seasons.

The exhausting wintry weather we've experienced this year will relax for just another day before more snow arrives this weekend.

Snow showers are expected anytime on Saturday and Sunday. Minor accumulations are expected over the entire 48 hr. period. We continue to watch the proximity of the coastal low but as noted in earlier blogs it is looking more and more likely that it goes out to sea and misses its connection with the weaker low moving in from the Midwest. There is good agreement that the region will see a total of 1 to 3" through the entire weekend. With that said, this winter has been one of surprises and over achievers so we will not rule out 3+" amounts but a lot would have to occur to make that possible.

By early next week high pressure settles in and the weather will turn quiet but it will remain cold with high temperatures struggling to reach 30 degrees both Monday and Tuesday. (Normal high is 43). The cold airmass in place will set the stage for what is to come later in the week.

We then turn our attention to the another coastal storm which could impact us as early as Wednesday night. Several models we analyze indicate an area of low pressure will develop along the Gulf coast and swing up the Eastern seaboard late Wednesday into Thursday. This next storm has potential to bring us rain and snow but timing and precipitation types and amounts will change so you should stay with us on CBS 3 and CBSPhilly.com for the latest updates.
