Two Civil Abuse Suits Settled With Archdiocese

By Robin Culverwell

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two men have settled their civil cases against the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. They say when they were younger they were abused by priests.

Details of the settlement are not being made public, the accused identified as fathers William Ayers and Martin Satchell.

Ayers has moved out of the country, Satchell was removed from the priesthood.

The victims' attorney, Dan Monahan, says for both men coming forward was not only for their well being but for that of others.

"...children who may have been molested by father Ayers, and in particular, the fact that father Ayers is now living in Guatemala and may be continuing his activities down there we don't know," said Monahan.

One of the victims issued a statement saying he's gone from feeling suicidal to healing and he encourages other victims to come forward.

The Archdiocese says it takes allegations of abuse seriously and has helped these two men recover in part by paying for psychological care.
