Tuition Breaks For Veterans Could Help Colleges

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The National Student Clearinghouse has reported that total college enrollment dropped again this year, driven primarily by the departure of older students who found jobs. This spring, the drop was 1.9% from last year.

The sector suffering the biggest decline was four-year for-profit institutions and the second highest percentage to leave school was 3.9% from public, two-year schools.

President Obama signed legislation requiring public colleges to charge veterans lower in-state tuition rates regardless of their states of residency and the deadline has been waived until December 2015.

It is hoped that making it easier financially for veterans to attend college will help increase the enrollment rates.
