Trump Stirs Up Controversy With Comey Tweet

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- President Donald Trump stirred up controversy Friday morning with a tweet, insinuating that he may have recorded conversations with former FBI Director James Comey.

"James Comey better hope that there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press," Trump tweeted.

The Twitter outburst was part of a series of tweets early Friday morning. Trump is known to take to Twitter to vent. Many times, it is early in the morning.

Trump: Comey Is 'A Showboat, Grandstander'

"I think that he is a joke," Philadelphia Democrat Susan Robinson told Eyewitness News.

Others love Trump's brash online persona.

"He's not going to stop because that's just who he is," Republican Renee Amoore said.

Amoore is the deputy chair of the Pennsylvania Republican Party. She was part of Trump's transition team, and was rumored to be a candidate for his cabinet.

She says the controversy surrounding the firing of James Comey is a distraction from Trump's agenda.

"It's driving me crazy. Enough is enough. There's other news than somebody being fired. Let's move on," she said.
