Trooper, 2 Other People Hurt In Parkway Accident

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say two people were seriously injured and a state trooper was also hurt in a three-vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway in southern New Jersey.

State police say the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. Sunday in Stafford Township in Ocean County, shortly after the trooper had made a traffic stop.

Sgt. Brian Polite says that another car traveling on the roadway struck the trooper's cruiser, which then hit the stopped car. The cruiser then caught fire, and the other two cars also were damaged from the fire.

The trooper was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. The two more seriously injured victims were flown by helicopter to a hospital, but further details on their injuries were not disclosed.
