Trial Ordered For Colwyn Cop Accused of Stalking Former Girlfriend

COLWYN, Pa. (CBS) -- A part-time police officer in Colwyn (Delaware County), Pa. has been ordered held for trial in Montgomery County, accused of harassing and stalking his former fiancée with phone calls, text messages, and e-mails.
Over a period of seven months, prosecutors say, 31-year-old Stephen Rozniakowski contacted the victim thousands of times, finally forcing her to go to police because she feared for her safety.
The Norwood man was held for trial on all charges, but defense attorney Marty Mullaney asked the judge to dismiss the most serious charge of stalking, contending the case doesn't rise to that level.
"It is a harassment case, it is not a stalking case," Mullaney tells KYW Newsradio. "He wasn't hiding behind bushes. He wasn't stalking her, per se. He really was just calling her too many times."
Mullaney says his client made the calls because he felt she had a serious prescription drug addiction problem and he wanted to make sure she was getting help.
The victim told police the two were engaged to be married but broke up last September, and that's when the calls and messages began.
Rozniakowski remains free on bail.
