Trial For NJ Father Accused Of Killing 3-Year-Old Son Moved To April

HADDON Twp., NJ (CBS) -- The father accused of killing his toddler son in Haddon Township, Camden County about a year and a half ago has a new trial date. It was supposed to start this week.

DJ Creato sat still before a judge, as his attorney asked for a delayed start date to his trial because of a pending pathology report.

Creato is charged with killing three-year-old Brendan Creato, after his body was found near a creek bed in Haddon Township in October of 2015.

Creato's defense attorney Richard Fuschino says an independent forensic pathologist is reviewing the medical examiner's toxicology and autopsy results.

"It's super important in a case like this to have that scientific evidence and even if it takes a little longer to get there, it's a worth while to wait."

The defendant has pled not guilty, and there was no definitive cause of death.

Brendan was found dead just a half a mile from his father's apartment.

Authorities say Creato wanted to get rid of his son because his girlfriend didn't like children.

The new trial date is April 10th.
