Dog Killed After Tree Crashes Into Historic Home In Mercer County
MERCER COUNTY, N.J. (CBS) —A tree went crashing into a home in Mercer County, Tuesday.
It wasn't stormy, but it was windy when the tree toppled in the 500 block of Mercer Road in Princeton.
"It was totally shocking," said a neighbor.
Neighbors believe the home had been purchased mere months ago and was currently being renovated. Police say that one man was inside of it around 4 p.m. when winds likely caused the large tree to come crashing down on it.
The loss was more than a new house, according to investigators, while the owner escaped injury his dog was struck and killed by a portion of the tree.
"It's such a tragic event," said the neighbor.
Another side of this loss is a historic one. New Jersey is widely considered a crucial junction in the American revolution and according to real estate records the now dark "Clark Cottage" as it's called - predates that war by about 290 years
"It's too bad when you think about a house that has lasted almost 300 years and then a tree takes it out," said a neighbor.
