Police: Driver Arrested After Car Crashes Through Fence, Collides With SEPTA Regional Rail Train

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police say a driver has been arrested after her vehicle crashed through a fence and collided with a SEPTA Regional Rail train on Tuesday.

It happened around 4:41 p.m. at 56th Street and Hoffman Avenue in Kingsessing.

According to police, a 32-year-old woman, driving a silver Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on 56th Street and lost control of her vehicle.  Police say the Civic crashed through a fence onto the SEPTA Media/Elwyn Line train tracks.  Police say a train then struck the vehicle.

Two passengers in the vehicle were injured.

A 20-year-old woman suffered chest pains and a 33-year-old woman suffered a busted lower lip.  They were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

No passengers on the train were injured.

Police say the driver was then arrested on DUI charges.

Service along the Media/Elwyn Line has since been restored in both directions.
