Traffic Detours In Place On Section Of Busy Old City Road

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're driving through Old City over the next two weeks, look for detours in the area of Chestnut Street beginning today.

Streets Department spokesman Patrick O'Donnell says work crews will be busy for the next couple of weeks during the day from Monday through Friday:

"We have the closure of the 200 block of Chestnut Street for sewer connections tying in the American Revolutionary Museum to the main that is out on Chestnut Street."

Motorists on eastbound Chestnut will be diverted north on 3rd then east onto Market Street and south back to second and Chestnut.

The detours, dust and noise are not sitting well with those who live and work in the area, but O'Donnell says contractors tried to tailor the work hours to the neighbors concerns:

"Generally we would require something of this magnitude to occur during the evening, but due to the sensitivity of the community we determine that 9 a.m. until 330 p..m would be a better time."

The Museum of the American Revolution is expected to open in early 2017.
